Night in the Woods is an experience game concentrated on investigation, story, and character, including many characters to meet and parcels to do over a lavish, energetic world.
Mae returns home to the coal mines of Possum Springs. She meets up her friends; Bea, Gregg, Angus and together they begin investigating a recent kidnap that occurred during the town’s Halloween’s Festival. They are chased by a group of cloaked figures and while on the run Mae falls and lapses into a comma. Mae wakes up and shares her journal with her friends. Still wounded, she goes after the “cult”; the group that had gone after her and her friends. It turns out that the “cult” was responsible for multiple kidnappings with the intention of sacrifice to a god called Black Goat. Black Goat would in return keep the economy of Possum Springs afloat.
Someone from the cult tries to kill Mae but the rest come and rescue her. They trap the cult underground and collapse the mines.
